Zen and the Art of Drinking Real Beer

by John D. Harvey on February 27, 2010

Going to a homespun beer tasting tonight with a bunch of friends. This is just an informal thing where we all bring 5-6 beers that we can all sample while we sit around and shoot the bull.

Here’s my choices. Click the images for reviews at Beeradvocate.com:

You can tell that my tastes run toward dark brews. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not beer unless a mouse can walk across its surface and not sink.

At my local package store, the checkout clerk looked at my selection and said “Dude, you have Jedi Beer Powers.”

Why yes I do.

thanks for the shout out… being the face on this bottle of Rogue Ales, I blog about it ~ http://www.RogueChocolateStout.com has news, notes, reviews, recipes and other factoids about the wonders of this elixir, brewed by John “more hops” Maier in Newport, Oregon ~ cheers !

Keep an eye out for (I think) Harpoon’s Island Creek Oyster Stout. Yeppers, for part of the process, they chuck oysters into the vat. Be brave, sir.

Sebbie … I was a big fan of the Rogue Chocolate Stout. One of my favorites for that night! Thanks for stopping by.

John … That they actually use oysters in the brewing process makes me want to try it MORE. I believe this is the brew you refer to: http://beernews.org/2009/12/harpoon-island-creek-oyster-stout-comes-next-in-100-barrel-series/ . Will have to try to find a place that serves it.
