Boskone Next Weekend
I’ll be at Boskone science fiction convention next weekend on Saturday. Boskone is a very fun event primarily catering to serious readers and writers of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Which is to say … no 300-pound hobbits walking around. It’s also an opportunity to hang out with some great writer friends including Paul Tremblay, John Langan, and Jack Haringa. Laird Barron, who has to stay home to care for his puppy, will be missed.
Speaking of Books … This Is Fantastic
Google+ Lost Its New Car Smell
I like a lot of things about Google+. I like the UI, how Circles work, posting, etc. But the fact is that it has become the social media site where I occasionally re-post content that I’ve already placed on Facebook. Ultimately, there’s not a lot of activity over there. These days I primarily go to Google+ to see what Nick Kaufmann and Jack Haringa are up to.
When Facebook rolled out the Timeline concept, I had *dozens* of FB friends threaten to abandon the site completely. Only three followed through on the threat … to one degree or another. One fully deleted his account; one simply stopped posting to FB (but his account is still active), and a third deactivated his account but activated it again within a couple of months.
I’ll keep using Google+ as the forum for my B-grade content, but they’ll really need to do something radical to make it the default social media site for a broader audience.
Pibble Pictures!
As you all know, I loves me some cute pit bull pictures. Check this out!
The photographer (Jennifer Silva) operates an Etsy store called Pibble Slobber Studio. There’s lots of great pittie pictures for sale.
For the Aging Punks …
… a live performance of Six Pack by Black Flag.
No …
… I didn’t give a flying wet poo about the Superbowl.
The Oatmeal … damn funny web comics.
Cheers,
John Harvey
